Daily Somatic Practices To Help You Return To Yourself

Over these last weeks I have offered you tools for overwhelm, for dysregulation, for the heat, for the family that reaches straight past your grown up self, and for the critic that never quite lets up.

Today, I am drawing them together into something simpler: Healing is not a destination you arrive at. It is a returning to yourself, the quiet space within and around you, that you practise, over and over, for the rest of your life.

There is no finish line, and that is a relief

Many of the women I work with arrive hoping to be fixed, to reach a version of themselves that never gets overwhelmed, never regresses, never flares. I understand the longing, but I gently let it go, because it is not how bodies or nervous systems work. You will always be a sensitive person in a loud world. You will always have parts that get frightened and a system that sometimes tips over.

I myself am living proof of this. Just like you, I struggle with dysregulation. My hormones change through the month and some days I feel strong and powerful and other days I would rather watch the same comfort TV show all day.

We are not a fixed system, we are dynamic. Everything in our environment and within our bodies changes moment to moment. And so our healing journey shifts and changes, too.

The good news hidden inside this is that you do not have to get it right permanently. You only have to know the way back. And once you truly understand that, a great deal of pressure falls away.

Small returns, practised often

A somatic life is not built from grand gestures. It is built from small returns, practised often. The long exhale when you notice your shoulders climbing. The hand on the belly when the day speeds up. The pause to name a part instead of becoming it. The glass of cold water on a hard afternoon. The choice to lie down before you are broken rather than after.

Each of these is a tiny act of coming home. On their own they seem almost too small to matter. Practised daily, over months and years, they slowly teach your nervous system a new expectation, that home is close, that you know the way, and that you will keep coming back for yourself no matter how far you wander.

You are your own steady place

The deepest aim of all this work is not to depend on a technique, or on me, or on anyone else. It is to become, for yourself, the steady presence you have always needed. The one who notices when you are struggling and turns towards you with kindness. The one who knows that overwhelm passes, that parts can be soothed, that a body can be met rather than managed.

You already have everything you need to begin. Not to be finished, but to return. And returning, gently and often, is the healing.

Namaste
