Heal with mind-body somatic yoga & movement

Learn to listen to the wisdom of your body through somatic yoga and movement.

I’ve designed beautiful workshops and group classes that restore your body and calm your mind. Supporting your journey toward holistic healing and wellness.

Held in person across Cambridgeshire, I guide you through a range of practices that include body sensing dance, somatic yoga, meditation and sound healing. No prior experience is needed.

I bring in decades of experience and knowledge into a single restorative practice that will leave you experiencing profound peace.

Release, Surrender, Move into Flow.

Workshops

My inclusive approach means you’ll experience a deep connection with your body through movement, breath, scent, and sound. I use nag champa essential oils and incense to recreate the incredible smell of an authentic yoga ashram, transporting you instantly to a place of peace and calm. Inspirational music that you’ll want to move to. Yogic breathing techniques to sooth the nervous system. And accessible, mindful movement to instil a sense of joy and flexibility to the body.

All my movement sessions follow a similar kind of flow, each themed with the season, or what I am drawn to support you to release.

These workshops are perfect for those curious to explore yoga, dance, and movement in an accessible, body-led way. The sessions invite you to express yourself with confidence, surrounded by community and support. A body-led movement journey designed to wake up your senses, soften tension, and bring you into joyful, collective movement — because you don’t have to be a dancer to dance.

My next workshop will be in September, details below.

About Somatic Movement

Somatic movement is a practice that incorporates body and interoception (internal body sensation) awareness techniques. We are focusing more on the mind-body connection and how it feels rather than what it looks like.

In my movement classes we generally use yoga poses somatically to access emotional release. In my dance classes I choreograph very short, easy to learn sequences of movement.

We work slowly, using deliberate movements that promote relaxation and release tension. I bring in techniques like breathing exercises, visualisations, and gentle stretching to cultivate ease and acceptance.

In my workshops I encourage expressive movement in a safe, inclusive atmosphere. No dance experience required and you have complete agency over your body, responding to where it guides you to be. Explore physical sensations, emotions and movement patterns through mindful movement and breath.

Feel the rhythm, flow with grace, and celebrate shared movement.

 You can expect…

  • Structured and accessible, with simple, choreographed flow sequences.

  • Focused on learning, practicing, and sharing movement as a collective.

  • Inspired by performance yet pressure-free, promoting a shared flow state.

  • Emotional co-regulation through group expression and connection.

  • Heart-opening yoga asanas to soften, release, and ground.

Somatic movement and dance can help with:

  • Reducing stress and balancing cortisol

  • Enhancing emotional regulation

  • Improving overall well-being

  • Improving quality of sleep

  • Fostering a sense of presence

  • Developing greater resilience and self-awareness

  • Promoting physical and mental health

Somatic movement encourages a gentle exploration of the Self, making it a valuable addition to your journey to harmony.

“The most important pieces of equipment you need for doing yoga are your body and your mind.”

Claire Buttrum

Claire Buttrum
Coach, dancer, teacher and therapist

I’m a qualified yoga teacher and Pilates instructor, ex-professional dancer and choreographer.

I qualified in Anusara yoga under Bridget Woods-Kramer in 2001, got certified to teach Pilates in 2018, am a certified Somatic Healer accredited with IYAT, and have taught in studios all over the south east of England.

I trained at Rambert ballet school, and danced professionally with a number of small dance troupes.

I am trained in interoception awareness, holistic therapies, and work in a trauma-centred, neuroceptive informed way. I’ve studied ancient chanting with Krishna Das, and enjoy exploring the divine feminine.

My classes are gentle and supportive. I don’t believe in pushing through pain or discomfort. My role is to support your nervous system to find balance and flexibility, and enable your body to develop strength and mobility.

I teach in a way that honours your body first, allowing you to tune into what your body is telling you it needs for true healing.
